Praziquantel 600 Mg dosage for Adults

Citovat

Praziquantel 600 mg is an antiparasitic medicine commonly prescribed to treat infections caused by tapeworms and flukes, including schistosomiasis and liver fluke infections. The correct dosage for adults depends on the type and severity of the infection, body weight, and the doctor’s recommendation.

For schistosomiasis, the usual adult dosage is around 20 mg per kilogram of body weight taken three times in one day. The doses are generally spaced 4 to 6 hours apart. In some cases, doctors may prescribe a different schedule depending on the parasite involved and the patient’s medical condition.

For tapeworm infections, a single dose may sometimes be enough. Adults are usually advised to take the tablet with water during or after meals because food helps improve the absorption of the medicine. Swallowing the tablet whole is recommended unless a healthcare provider suggests otherwise.

The exact dosage should always be determined by a doctor. Taking too little medicine may not completely remove the parasites, while taking too much can increase the risk of side effects. Common side effects include headache, dizziness, stomach pain, nausea, tiredness, and mild fever. These effects are usually temporary and may occur as the parasites die.

Adults with liver problems, kidney disease, or other health conditions should inform their doctor before using Praziquantel. Alcohol should generally be avoided during treatment because it may worsen side effects such as dizziness or stomach discomfort.

It is important to complete the prescribed treatment exactly as directed. Follow-up medical tests may sometimes be needed to confirm that the parasitic infection has been fully cleared. Always use Praziquantel under medical supervision for safe and effective treatment.
